Laminar's blade-element flight model, global scenery and, from patch 10.20 on, a 64-bit core. Instead of looking up how an aircraft behaves in a table, X-Plane works out the forces on the surfaces every frame, which is why it flies differently and why real pilots started treating it as a desktop trainer rather than a game.
